Allison Teich’s design philosophy

In 2006, Teich launched Again NYC, a collection of limited edition bags made from rescued and repurposed materials. Hoping to reach a broader audience while still adhering to her eco-friendly design principles, she launched TEICH in 2007.

“I learned over these past few years that being eco-friendly can be more than just recycling. It’s making fewer and smarter purchases and looking for quality over trend. With the TEICH line I aim to provide my customer with a beautiful, timeless piece that will last years to come.”

“All the leather I use is vegetable tanned and chrome-free. I work with environmentally friendly fabrics such as hemp and linen. These fibers require no pesticides or herbicides and much less water than conventional fiber plants. Hemp grows very quickly, yielding more crop and needing less land than crops such as cotton.”

The TEICH philosophy extends to the production of the bags. Growing up outside of New York City, Teich spent time at her father’s Greenpoint, Brooklyn steel door factory. “In 1925 my grandfather started the company and it is still in business there today,” said Teich. “I have a deep appreciation of the manufacturing history of NYC. It was important for me to keep production of my bags local and support New York businesses and artisans.”.
