Beyond sparkles and twinkles and bows…
Elena, age 4, knows what she likes: purple, not blue; Elsa, not Anna; and sparkly. How do you help a child expand her horizons and enjoy some new toys, some new ideas? Here’s what our staff came up with:
Elena started by exploring the store. Her current interests were obvious. We love these sparkly clips too.
Elena then met Natania, a wonderful staff member at Teich Toys & Books who has worked with kids forever. Natania shared some toys she knew that 4-year-olds love.
NOW, Elena’s an explorer. Or a pirate!
Next, Natania pulled a toy most adults couldn’t imagine being fun. No kidding: Elena played with this for 10 minutes.
Natania said, “Ice cream!” and Elena said “Yum!” She wanted to open the box. Then she wanted to paint the ice cream on the easel behind her.
Pling. Plingk! PLING!!! While most of our toys are not buzzy or loud, a lot of 4-year-olds love music.
Finally, Natania showed Elena MagnaTiles and Elena said, “I want my own, Daddy!” (Her brother has a set).
So there you go: MagnaTiles and music and telescoping were Elena’s new passions, thanks to Natania. The sparkles were forgotten, for a while!
